Autumn Music Variety is a festival that takes place in Dubrovnik for the fifth time. Festival includes several concerts by Dubrovnik Symphony Orchestra. Concerts are taking place in different magnificent locations in Dubrovnik. The Orchestra and its guest will be leading audience trough musical variety from classical and popular music to gypsy jazz music.
Festival will take place form 15th October to 25th October 2019 at Rector’s Palace, Sponza Palace and Franciscan Church. This event brings interesting and unusual music program at beautiful locations in the Town.
Festival locations in Dubrovnik
Rector’s Palace once upon a time, served as a seat of the Rector who governed former Republic of Ragusa. The palace was built in a Gothic style with harmonious combination of Renaissance and Baroque elements.
Palace contains the rector’s office and private chambers, administrative offices, dungeon and public halls. Today the palace is turned into Cultural History Museum that is evoking the history of Ragusa.
In that beautiful, historical ambient two concerts of Autumn Music Variety festival will be held. The first one at 15th October at 8.30 pm. Theme of this concert is film music. DSO Pops Ensemble with Slobodan Begić as a conductor and Džemal Cakić trumpet will perform variety of songs form popular movies and TV series like Game of Thrones, James Bond, Godfather, Titanic, Memoirs of a Geisha and more.
The other concert in Rector’s Palace is scheduled for October 18th. It’s a concert for piano and orchestra conducted by Tomislav Fačini and with Stefani Grbić playing piano. The concert includes performance of Concert for orchestra, 2nd paragraph by I. Končić, Concert for piano and orchestra in C major by W. A. Mozart and Symphony No. 4 in A major, Op. 90,’Italian’ by F.B. Mendelssohn.
Sponza Palace from 16th century is another festival location. The palace was built in Gothic and Renaissance style and trough history served for different public functions including as a customs office and bonded warehouse, mint, armory, treasury, bank and school. It was the cultural center of the Republic of Ragusa.
Today the Palace serves for archive which holds documents dating back to in the 12th century, with the earliest manuscript from 1022. The Palace is also used as performance venue of different events. The first concert of Autumn Music Variety will be held there at 13th of October. This concert will be performed by Dora Kamber at violin and Pero Škobelj at guitar.
Franciscan Church will host the last concert of the festival at 25th of October. The Church is part of the large Monastery complex that consist the monastery, a church, a library and a pharmacy. The church was destroyed in earthquake in 1667 and reconstructed in a Baroque style with a single nave.
This sacred ambient is perfect place for closing concert Mozart’s Don Giovanni, Overture and Symphony No. 38 in D major, K. 504, “Prague”. The concert will be conducted by Marc Tardue and with Martina Zadro as soprano.
