Orlando Furioso – Baroque Music Cycle

Orlando Furioso is a Baroque music cycle organized and performed by the Dubrovnik Symphony Orchestra. Director of the cycle is multitalented Russian virtuoso Dmitry Sinkovsky, world star of Baroque violin and conductor.

This festival of Baroque music will take a place in special ambient of Dubrovnik Rector`s Palace, from 7th to 14th of June 2019. Cycle is divided in four separated concerts each one with its own theme.

First concert of the cycle is scheduled for Friday, June 7th. Theme of first concert is Italian Baroque music, and Orchestra will perform the songs of Italian Baroque composer Claudio Monteverdi. Audience in Dubrovnik Rector`s Palace will have the privilege to hear famous compositions: Oblivion Soave, “Ahi, caso acerbo” – “In un fiorito prato”, Lamento d’ Arianna, Lamento Di Ottavia “Disprezzata regina”, Si dolce è ‘l tormento, Dal mio permesso amato – Musica (L’ Orfeo).

Lead performers of this show are Jose Maria Lo Monaco, mezzo-soprano from Italy, Tomislav Fačini, harpsichord from Croatia, Izidor Erazem Grafenauer theorbo player from Slovenia and Vanda Đanić cello player from Croatia.

The next day, Saturday 8th of June on the program is concert with theme “Two face of the Baroque” performed by DSO Chamber Orchestra with Tomislav Fačini as a conductor and Izidor Erazem Grafenauer playing theorbo.

Musicians will perform compositions of numerous Baroque composers. On the program are: Adagio in G major by T. Albinoni and R. Giazotto, Trio sonata by H. Purcell, Canon by J. Pachelbel, Trio sonata No. 4 in E major RV 66 and Concerto for Lute by A. Vivaldi, Tambourine from “Dardanusa“ by J. P. Rameau, “The arrival of the Queen of Sheba” from Solomon by G. F. Handel, “Air” from Suite in D major and Choral: Jesus bleibet meine Freude by J. S. Bach, King Arthur- Song of the Cold Genius by H. Purcell and Dido’s Lament by H. Purcell and Stokowsky.

For Tuesday, 11th of June, Dubrovnik Symphony Orchestra is preparing the great show called “Sentimenti” with director and artistic lead of Orlando Furioso Baroque Music Cycle, world famous virtuoso Dmitry Sinkovsky playing violin accompany by Jose Maria Lo Monaco, mezzo-soprano from Italy, Izidor Erazem Grafenauer, from Slovenia on theorbo and Pavao Mašić from Cratioa playing harpsichord.

All those great musicians will perform compositions of well know Baroque composers A. Vivaldi, G. P. Telemann, G. F. Händel and J. A. Hasse. in the repertoire are: Ouverture in C major from L’Olimpiade, “Sento in Seno” from Giustino, Concerto for 3 Violins, Sovvente il Solo” from Andromeda liberata, Duo “Io t’ abbraccio (Rodelinda), Adagio and Fugue in G minor, “Ah, mio cor” Alcina, Violin Concerto in D minor, “Scherza infida” from Ariodante, “Gelosia spietata Aletto” from Admeto.

Final day offers grand finale of the whole cycle. Theme of the evening is Baroque Music Cycle “Orlando Furioso”. Dubrovnik Symphony Orchestra with Dmitry Sinkovsky as a conductor and Izidor Erazem Grafenauer playing theorbo will perform Water Music, Suite No. 1, 2 and 3 composed by German-British Baroque composer G.F. Handel.
